Coteaux Varois en Provence
A young and dynamic AOP
Barely 30 years old, stretching over almost 3,000 hectares at an average altitude of 350 metres: since 1993, the Coteaux Varois en Provence AOP (protected designation of origin) epitomises the quality and distinctive character of Green Provence wines. This clay-limestone terroir is perfect for producing great wines that benefit from the freshness of the slopes surrounding the Sainte Baume Mountain. Rosé wines, but also reds and whites produced by blending Grenache, Rolle or Syrah, marked by their mineral and subtle quality. A little-known appellation worth (re)discovering!
Away from the more well-known appellations, the Coteaux Varois en Provence AOP expresses its profound singularity stemming from its terroir and local climate. This Green Provence is also and primarily limestone territory, making it particularly well suited to viticulture. Stretching over 2,600 hectares and 28 districts, the vineyards of the Coteaux Varois en Provence AOP are marked by a high-altitude geology (averaging 350 m and over 1,000 m near the Sainte Baume), which combines gravel and flint. The grape varieties are predominantly Mediterranean: Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon in red and rosé, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Semillon in white. The wine making and ageing process is traditional and produces aromatic, balanced wines of great finesse.
